Usher and Donald Glover are both among the nominees for the 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards.
Usher’s star-studded Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show has been nominated for Best Live Variety Special. It also received nods for Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction For A Variety Special and Outstanding Technical Direction & Camerawork For A Special.
The Super Bowl halftime performance quickly became the most watched TV event of all time, drawing 123.4 million viewers, according to Billboard.
It topped Dr. Dre‘s star-studded 2022 performance, which boasted appearances from Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige and 50 Cent, as well as Rihanna‘s 2023 show, during which she revealed that she was pregnant with her second child.
As for Glover, he’s been nominated for Best Lead Actor In A Drama Series and Best Writing for A Drama Series for Mr & Mrs Smith, with the show also being nominated for Best Drama Series.
The 76th Emmys will air live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 15 from 5-8 p.m. PT on ABC.

In related news, Donald Glover was among the many artists who paid homage to Usher with a special performance at the 2024 BET Awards last month.
Kicking off with Glover crooning Ursh’s 2001 hit “U Don’t Have To Call,” Keke Palmer, Summer Walker, Coco Jones, Marsha Ambrosius, Tinashe, Chlöe Bailey, Teyana Taylor and Victoria Monét all subsequently joined in with a medley of some of his biggest hits, including “Superstar,” “There Goes My Baby” and “Nice & Slow,” before Latto closed out the extravaganza by rapping Ludacris‘ part on “Yeah!”
The 45-year-old watched the stacked show from the audience with a huge smile on his face. The tribute was part of a big night for the Atlanta native, as he was also honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual gathering.
Additionally, he took home the trophy for Best Male R&B/Pop Artist.
Usher was also honored with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Voice of the Culture Award that weekend.
The accolade is given to ASCAP members who “have had a major influence on music and culture” in recognition of “their success as creators and changemakers,” according to a press release.
