As the investigation into a shooting at a Donald Trump campaign rally continues, investigators are piecing together the activities of the shooter leading up to the attack.
Thomas Matthew Crooks, of Bethel Park, Pa., opened fire at a Trump rally in Butler, Pa., on Saturday, July 13, in what the FBI has called an “assassination attempt.”
The shooting killed one attendee and critically injured two others. The former president was wounded during the attack and was whisked off stage with blood coming from his ear, later saying he’d sustained a gunshot wound.
The shooter was immediately shot dead by Secret Service.

As the FBI continues its investigation, they are learning details about the shooter, a 20-year-old high-school graduate who worked at a nursing home.
Investigators are shedding light on the internet search history of the shooter leading up to the attack.
Among other topics, the shooter searched for information about the 2021 high school shooting in Michigan which claimed the lives of four students, CNN reported, citing a briefing by the FBI and US Secret Service.
Notably, the Michigan school shooting led to the conviction of the school shooter’s parents in a case that was the first of its kind.

The FBI said in its Wednesday briefing that the Pennsylvania shooter had specifically looked up the Michigan teen shooter and his parents, per CNN.
Crooks’ father called police a little after the shooting on Saturday, expressing concern about his son’s whereabouts and noting that a rifle was missing from their home, NBC News reported this week, citing unnamed senior officials. It isn’t yet clear if the father made the call after hearing about the shooting or without realizing the shooting had taken place.
The shooter also searched for information about upcoming events for President Joe Biden’s campaign, The New York Times, CBS News and ABC News previously reported.
Authorities still have not released a motive behind Saturday’s shooting.
