The Accountant 2: All About the Action Thriller’s Sequel Starring Ben Affleck (Including the Release Date and Plot Details!)

‘The Accountant 2’ will hit theaters — nine years after the original film

Warning: The Account spoilers ahead!
Ben Affleck is reprising his role as Christian Wolff — and it’s been nine years in the making.
The Accountant, directed by Gavin O’Connor, premiered in 2016 and follows Christian — an autistic mathematics savant who works as a freelance account for dangerous criminal organizations. With the U.S. Treasury Department sniffing around, Christian takes an above-board job auditing the books at Living Robotics.
He’s forced to team up with in-house accountant Dana Cummings (Anna Kendrick) and they discover that CEO Lamar Blackburn (John Lithgow) has embezzled $60 million from the company. This knowledge puts a target on both their backs and Christian must do everything in his power to protect Dana.
But his professional and personal worlds collide when he learns that his long-lost brother Braxton (Jon Bernthal) is leading the team of hitmen protecting Lamar.
The film ends with Christian killing Lamar and the brothers promising to reconnect again soon — under better circumstances.
The Accountant 2 will hit theaters in April 2025, and this time around, Christian and Braxton are on the same side. The pair work together to solve the murder of Ray King (J.K. Simmons) — the director of the Treasury Department’s financial crimes bureau.
On Feb. 11, Affleck told Vanity Fair that he felt “more prepared and educated” to play Christian in the sequel.
“He put the clothes back on and he just started becoming the strange laboratory of Chris’s brain, and he just started expressing Chris again in a very honest, authentic, very real way,” O’Connor added.
Here’s everything to know about the highly-anticipated The Accountant 2, including the release date, plot details and the first trailer.

Gavin O’Connor directed The Accountant and reprised his role for the sequel. This came after a significant break from Hollywood — he hasn’t directed a film since 2020’s The Way Back, which also starred Affleck.
O’Connor told Vanity Fair that it was “brutal” trying to get The Accountant 2 greenlit.
“It just felt like this flower that was ready to bloom, and then it would stop again and start again. It was so frustrating,” he said.
The director added that it was a “tall order” to deliver a film as entertaining as the first.
“It was very important to me to make an exuberant movie,” O’Connor explained. “I wanted to make an emotional film — an action movie that dealt with human connection and love was something that I really wanted to explore.”
That being said, Affleck and O’Connor are already discussing a potential The Accountant 3.
“I have a lot of thoughts about what to do with the third. I’ve been thinking about it for a lot of years,” the director told the outlet.
Affleck added, “I’m keenly aware of the fact that you kind of have to earn another movie. The worst pitfall is to store a bunch of your good ideas for the next installment. If you don’t create an interest demand the first time out there, you’re just going to be playing that to an empty house.”
