Salma Hayek Celebrates Daughter Valentina’s ‘Last Birthday at Home’: ‘Already Having Separation Anxiety’
Hayek shares the 17-year-old with husband François-Henri Pinault
As her daughter turns 17, Salma Hayek is feeling bittersweet!
In an Instagram post celebrating daughter Valentina’s birthday on Saturday, Sept. 21, the actress, 58, shared some sweet memories with the now-17-year-old, along with a message about marking her “last birthday at home.”
Throughout the post, Hayek showed videos and photos of Valentina, whom she shares with her husband, French businessman François-Henri Pinault, from early childhood on.
In one video, she sits in the backseat of a car with cat-like face paint on, and in another, she wears a tight red hat and goggles.
Plus, in an added detail, each part of the tribute is framed in a matching border that reads “Happy birthday Vale” in both English and Spanish — the teen is trilingual, and also speaks French — along with several hearts.
In the caption, Hayek rounded out the birthday tribute with a heartfelt message for Valentina, who — according to the actress — will be moving away from her parents before next September rolls around.
“My baby last birthday at home (for now),” Hayek wrote, adding that she is “already having separation anxiety.”
“She makes me laugh all day, teaches me so many things, keeps me motivated, inspires in so many ways makes me want to dance sing and cook and makes life so exciting,” she said. “I love you sooooooooo much mi Vale 💋🙏♥️.”
Throughout the years, the Eternals star (who is also a stepparent to Pinault’s daughter Mathilde and sons François and Augustin) has brought Valentina to several of her premieres and other star-studded events, like the Oscars. In 2022, the mother-daughter duo even appeared together in Vogue Mexico.
In her interview for the May 2022 issue, Valentina revealed that she hopes to have a career arc that reflects her mom’s.
“I want different things, but I almost always move between four,” she told the magazine, as translated into English. “I would like to be an actress and then a director because that is what makes sense in my head.”
“Also, I think it must be more difficult to be a director if you don’t have experience on the other side of the screen, that could help directing,” she added.
Elsewhere in the interview, Valentina shared that another one of her passions is makeup.
“I love makeup, I have a lot of it, but I don’t do it to be very pretty or because I want to remove imperfections,” she told Vogue Mexico. “Sometimes I don’t want to apply concealer because I think dark circles add something else. I like to wear makeup in lots of colors and, I don’t know, I like to explore it.”
