Kanye West‘s self-belief has been central to his brand from the very beginning, and NBA star Jayson Tatum seems to have taken inspiration from it.

The Boston Celtics won their 18th championship on Monday (June 17), defeating the Dallas Mavericks four games to one in the best-of-seven series.

At the post-game celebration, the five-time All Star alluded to Ye’s acceptance speech for Best Rap Album (The College Dropout) at the 47th Grammy Awards back in 2005.

“I know everybody will wonder what would happen if we didn’t win,” Tatum said while holding the Larry O’Brien Trophy as the crowd cheered him on. “I guess we’ll never know.”

Last week, Lil B bestowed his blessing on the Celtics after they went up three games to zero against the Mavs.

Prior to the Eastern Conference Champions losing their first game of finals in Game 4, the Oakland rapper endorsed the team during a chat with Barstool Backstage while expressing his admiration for the athletes on the roster.

“It’s a respect for the whole Celtics, and I appreciate how they’ve kept the team together,” he said about the team’s perseverance through the years. “They don’t give up on the squad. It’s like, okay, stuff happens, but they get there.”

The internet sensation’s name tends to come up quite often in pro basketball discourse because of his self-proclaimed powers as the BasedGod.

Back in 2016, he took credit for the Golden State Warriors’ winning record as well as James Harden having the most turnovers in NBA history that same season.

“The power of ‘The BasedGods’ curse made James harden get record most turnovers this year and the Warriors Nba most wins record – Lil B,” he wrote on Twitter at the time.
