Gunna has used his latest collaboration alongside Offset to respond to the many accusations that his plea deal in the YSL RICO case came at the expense of his loyalty to Young Thug.
As a matter of fact, it is the first thing the Atlanta rapper does on his verse on Set’s latest single, “Style Rare,” which arrived Friday (June 28).
In the first two lines of his portion of the song, Gunna immediately addresses rumors that, as part of his December 2022 plea deal, he provided Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and her team some information that
The track hears Gunna rap: “Won’t trade my team, I could never be a traitor/ Like Raiders, we ball, never thought they would raid us.”
Back in 2022, Gunna was released from prison after agreeing to a plea deal that will credit him with time served.According to WSB-TV, the YSL rapper (real name Sergio Kitchens) pleaded guilty to a racketeering conspiracy charge when he was back in court for a virtual hearing on December 14.
Gunna and his legal team entered an Alford plea where he plead guilty to one charge because it was in his best interest to do so as far as his freedom goes.
As a result, Gunna was sentenced to five years with one served in prison where he’s been since being arrested in May as part of the YSL indictment headlined by Young Thug. The four-year sentence left will reportedly be “suspended” and Gunna will serve the rest in the form of 500 hours of community service.
Since then, former collaborator Lil Baby has been an outspoken critic of Gunna’s.
Last summer, Baby appeared to take a subliminal shot at Gunna and the other defendants who pleaded out in a snippet of an unreleased song.
“Pussy n-ggas taking pleas/ I know Slime ain’t happy,” he rapped on the track.
A few months later, the 4PF frontman took another, more explicit shot at his former collaborator after their music was played at one of his concert.
A video that circulated online showed Baby saying, “Fuck the rats, turn this shit off” after “Drip Too Hard” began blaring through the venue speakers.
Despite the harsh darts from Lil Baby, Gunna has been adamant that Young Thug harbors no ill will towards him.
During an interview with XXL in April, the “Fukumean” rapper opened up about his current relationship with his label boss, saying: “It’s the same. It’s love, always. Our relationship is our relationship.”
However, Young Thug recently seemed to pledge his allegiance to Lil Baby over Gunna.
Thugger, who is currently on trial in the YSL RICO case, made a rare social media post from jail on Wednesday (June 26) and appeared to draw a line in the sand.
He simply wrote: “whateva wham say goes,” referring to Lil Baby’s nickname.
