Drake and Kendrick Lamar‘s beef has been the basis for a great deal of contention, and Camila Cabello is among those who aren’t all that impressed by the back-and-forth.
In an interview with The Times of London that was published on Thursday (June 27), the former Fifth Harmony member talked about working with the 6 God and his ongoing feud with K.Dot.
“He is such a delight,” Cabello said. “It’s so frustrating to see people talk about someone you know in a way that is negative. You’re like, ‘Dang, if only you guys could just have dinner or something.’”
Drake has two guest spots on the 27-year-old’s latest album C,XOXO, and it all traces back to the singer sending him a DM.
“He’s the fucking GOAT, so it felt like shooting for the stars,” she told Billboard in May, before recalling the Instagram exchange with the Canadian superstar. “I showed him the album when I felt comfortable enough and he really liked it. [The feature] came out of a nontransactional place. He had this idea of a song called ‘Hot Uptown,’ and it just felt like I was in the city. I was in Miami.”
The track was finished in Turks & Caicos, following which Drizzy reportedly continued crooning over synths for two minutes — singing that was subsequently chopped up into an interlude titled “Uuugly.”
“He wanted to do one more thing for the album,” she explained. “Why does he have his own song? Because selfishly, I just want to hear Drake on my own album … I love that for me — it’s like that rebellious mood. Who says I can’t do that? It’s Drake talking his shit.”
Back in December, the two began getting attention from the paparazzi after Pop Crave published footage of them hanging out at Noah’s Ark Beach Club in the Caribbean. The stars could be seen riding jet skis together in addition to chatting and laughing on a boat.
The Toronto superstar reportedly started following the 26-year-old singer over the spring, after she shared a mirror selfie online and quoted his song “Search & Rescue” in the caption: “Take me out the Club. Take me out the Trap. Take me off the market. Take me off the map. I’m trying to hit the group chat and tell them it’s a wrap.”
