WHAT HAPPENED

England looked set to exit Euro 2024 at the last-16 stage after going 1-0 down to Slovakia in Gelsenkirchen. However, Bellingham popped up with a stunning equaliser deep into stoppage-time to force extra-time. The Real Madrid superstar, who had been enduring a poor game, scored with a brilliant overhead kick to breathe life into England’s Euro 2024 hopes and thrill fans watching back home.

WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING

England fan @CFC_Janty was in awe of Bellingham’s strike, posting on X: “BELLINGHAM WHAT A GOAL.HE IS THE DEFINITION OF CLUTCH.”

Supporter @ThatBabatunde was also stunned by the quality of the strike: “The audacity to attempt an overhead kick in the last minute with your team about to get knocked out. Jude of House Bellingham!”

@CFCMod_ was also amazed, posting: “Jude Bellingham is the chosen one, once you have the clutch gene it’s simply over. Unbelievable”

And @ChrisExcel102 feels another award is heading the Real Madrid star’s way: “Give Bellingham that Balon Dor now !!”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Bellingham’s equaliser was swiftly followed by a goal from Harry Kane to put England 2-1 up, and they held on to earn a dramatic victory that took them through to the last eight. The Three Lions will, however, be without defender Marc Guehi for the quarter-final due to suspension. Southgate will be forced into a change with Guehi but may also consider further changes after seeing his team look second-best to Slovakia for long periods of the match.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Bellingham’s goal was timed at 94 minutes and 34 seconds and is England’s latest ever in normal time at the European Championship. The goal was also England’s first shot on target in the match.
