The couple welcomed their first baby together, son Kareem “KK,” this past July
Ashanti is loving these first few months with her son, but she isn’t ready to share him with the public yet.
The singer, 44, spoke with Entertainment Tonight and was asked why she hasn’t posted her 7-month-old son Kareem “KK,” whom she shares with husband Nelly, on social media. Ashanti said that while he’s a “beautiful baby,” she’s just not ready yet.
“I just feel like he’s so important to me and I don’t know if I want to share that. And he’s a beautiful baby. He’s definitely my twin,” Ashanti says.

“I’m thinking about it. Sometimes I wanna post, like, ‘Oh this is so cute!’ Daddy definitely wants to post. Daddy wants to post,” the proud mom says of Nelly. “Not yet, Daddy! Not yet! But I just want to keep him to me for a little bit.”
Asked when she might reconsider, Ashanti said she’s just not sure and wants to make sure the photo is coming from her, not from others. “I don’t know. I think in a perfect world obviously I would control it,” she shares.
Nelly is also dad to son Cornell III (who goes by Tre), 25, and daughter Chanelle (who goes by Nana), 30. The rapper also adopted and raised his niece Sydney and nephew Shawn after his sister Jackie Donahue died of leukemia in March 2005.

In November, Ashanti and Nelly spoke to PEOPLE about welcoming their first baby together and how they’ve been settling into parenthood.
According to the couple, Nelly was still getting plenty of sleep while the “Baby” singer joked that she wasn’t.
“It’s amazing,” Ashanti said of having son KK in their lives. “He’s a blessing. He’s an angel. My life is amazing right now. I’m super blessed, so happy. I’m insanely in love with him.”
Reflecting on how her baby’s personality is emerging, Ashanti added that he definitely “has daddy’s temper.”
“When the bottle isn’t ready — oh, man,” she joked.
