WHAT HAPPENED?
Ruiz was one of the standout players at Euro 2024 as he aided Spain towards their dominant title victory which saw them win all seven of their ties. Arsenal have already been looking to add numbers to their midfield this summer and Duncan Castles reports that the Gunners have begun talks with Luis Enrique’s PSG regarding a move.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Castles has labelled Ruiz as an ‘obvious fit’ to Mikel Arteta’s side thanks to his hardworking qualities. The Spaniard won the most possession at the Euros and twice as much as any other player in the final third of the field. Following the departure of Mohammed Elneny and the potential departures of Thomas Partey and Emile Smith Rowe, Arsenal will be looking to sign another midfielder and have also been linked with a move for Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino.

DID YOU KNOW?
As per the report, Arsenal do not have the finances to facilitate the purchase of Ruiz this summer and will instead have to strike a similar deal with PSG as they did with Brentford for David Raya last summer. The Gunners may offer a loan deal to the Ligue 1 side for the Spaniard with an obligation to buy in the summer of 2025.

WHAT NEXT FOR RUIZ?
The 28-year-old midfielder has not yet joined Enrique and PSG team dynamics for this summer’s pre-season as he has been afforded an extended vacation following his duties with La Roja at the Euros.
