Another day, another TikTok beauty trend to try! However, unlike some of the more questionable ones like haemorrhoid cream for undereye bags, the latest viral sensation is something I’m excited about and fully ready to try. Over the past few weeks, social media feeds have been flooded with people testing the “double gloss” makeup technique, invented by none other than pop sensation Rihanna and her beauty brand Fenty Beauty.
The double gloss method, as popularised on TikTok, is a way to layer lip oil and lip gloss. The technique is simple: start with a lip oil or lip mask, then top it off with a lip gloss. The result? The most luscious-looking lips ever – at least if the videos are to be believed.
As someone who loves layering lip products to achieve the perfect pout, this trend wasn’t too far-fetched for me. I typically layer lip gloss over lipstick or use an occlusive like Aquaphor over a lip mask. However, I had never tried to achieve an ultra-glossy wet look, which is what I hoped this method would do.
To test it out, I started with my favourite lip oil, applying it generously. Then, I used my favourite lip gloss on top. The result? Instantly good-looking lips.
Lately, I’ve also been obsessed with lip stains because they feel weightless and last for hours. So for my second experiment, I started with a lip tint, then applied lip oil and in the end, a gloss. The results were again magical!
Verdict!
To sum it up, I would say that double glossing can create the illusion of fuller, more youthful lips without overlining or additional plumping products.
It can also be a great way to incorporate skincare in my makeup routine since the lip oil keeps the lips nourished all day and I don’t feel the need to use lip balm over and over again.
