“Let’s give her a round of applause,” the singer proclaimed upon seeing the winner

Adele is keeping up with the 2024 Olympics — even when she’s performing!

The “Easy on Me” singer, 36, paused her concert in Munich on Saturday, Aug. 3, to tune into the women’s 100-meter final taking place in Paris.

According to a video posted on social media, Adele stopped her show to see who would take home the gold and share a few words of encouragement for the athletes.

In the clip, the singer can be seen walking toward the back of the stage while facing away from the audience. The camera stopped projecting her movements on the jumbotron and instead began to show the track race.

In the video, the narrator at the Olympics announced that Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia won first place at 10.72, with Sha’Carri Richardson from Team USA finishing shortly after her.

Upon seeing the winner, Adele told the audience, “Let’s give her a round of applause!” She added, “Let’s get on with the show. Fantastic, St. Lucia!”

Another clip from a concert the night before shows the 16-time Grammy winner speaking about watching the Olympics. “… While I was watching world-class athletes, I’d be like, ‘Oh that landing was a bit dodgy, wasn’t it? Oh her legs weren’t really straight.’ Meanwhile, if I tried anything that they do, I’d be dead.”

She continued, “I’d absolutely die if I tried to even do a little, any kind of movement at all.”

The singer went on to praise gymnast Simone Biles for her gold win in gymnastics, saying “she was absolutely brilliant.”

Adele is playing in Munich for select days through August 31 at the open-air venue Munich Messe, which seats 80,000 people. Per the website for the residency, this is the first time Adele has performed in “mainland Europe” since 2016.

She said in a statement shared on the website, “So a few months ago I got a call about a summer run of shows. I’ve been content as anything with my shows in London’s Hyde Park and my residency in Vegas, so I hadn’t had any other plans. However, I was too curious to not follow up and indulge in this idea — a one off, bespoke pop-up stadium designed around whatever show I want to put on? Ohh!? Pretty much slap bang in the middle of Europe? In Munich? That’s a bit random, but still fabulous!”

She continued to express her excitement for the dates to be paired with the sporting event. “Right after the Euros? Come on England! With the Olympics next door? Go on Simone! And some of my favourite artists playing shows too? Why…YES!! I haven’t played in Europe since 2016! I couldn’t think of a more wonderful way to spend my summer and end this beautiful phase of my life and career with shows closer to home during such an exciting summer,” she said.

Earlier this month, Adele opened up to German outlet ZDF about her plans for new music and said she is focusing on “other creative things.”

“I don’t have any plans for new music, at all,” Adele shared. “I want a big break after this and I think I want to do other creative things, just for a little while.”
