After getting rescued from farm where she was set to be slaughtered, Serena the turkey now resides at Farm Sanctuary
Serena the turkey is a Swiftie.
The music-loving bird is now in her “sanctuary era,” living at Farm Sanctuary, with her bird buddy Thelma, but life wasn’t always a love story for the animal. Serena was born at a farm, where she was painfully debeaked and scheduled for slaughter, according to Farm Sanctuary.
Serena’s new sanctuary home rescued the turkey before she was killed to become a holiday meal. At the sanctuary, Serena has had time to develop and explore her hobbies. She quickly found that she loved listening to Taylor Swift’s music.
Farm Sanctuary said the bird lights up whenever she hears the singer and that “All Too Well” is Serena’s favorite Swift hit. A video of the turkey peacefully listening to the song has over 60,000 views on Farm Sanctuary’s Instagram.

While at Farm Sanctuary, Serena also discovered she likes helping other turkeys, whether comforting her BFF Thelma or helping other birds through Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt a Turkey Project.
Each holiday season, Farm Sanctuary encourages animal lovers to symbolically adopt one of its rescue turkeys for $35 instead of spending that money on a Thanksgiving turkey. The funds help Farm Sanctuary save more animals before they reach the dinner table, allowing the critters to live out their wildest dreams. Serena is one of the birds folks can adopt this year through Farm Sanctuary.

“Serena is a sweet little lovebug. She enjoys it when you sit with her, play music for her, and pet her. She closes her eyes and settles in for a good cuddle. All turkeys deserve to enjoy the sweet moments in life,” Brooke Marshall, Farm Sanctuary’s senior manager of wellness, shared in a statement to PEOPLE highlighting why humans should adopt a turkey, not eat one, this Thanksgiving.

Serena is not alone in supporting Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt a Turkey Project. The mission has also attracted celebrity support. Rainn Wilson, Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara, and Corey Feldman are some stars who have helped Farm Sanctuary save turkeys from becoming a Thanksgiving meal.
