CHINA –

Kanye West has continued to throw his fans for a loop by debuting a remix of Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles” during his and Ty Dolla $ign‘s concert in China.

The Vultures duo delivered a sold-out performance at Haikou’s Wuyuanhe Stadium over the weekend, selling over 42,000 tickets in a matter of minutes to make themselves one of the few Western artists to perform in the notoriously strict country that previously banned the likes of Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber from touring there.

The show, billed as a Vultures listening experience, featured a number of noteworthy moments including the premiere of a remake of Carlton’s 2002 pop hit.

In a snippet of the song captured during the show, Ty can be heard singing Carlton’s lyrics over a beat that closely resembles the original.

While Ye’s vocals aren’t heard in the video, the track also features feral noises that were lifted from Skinbone’s viral parody remix of “A Thousand Miles” from 2018.

The unexpected track left many listeners bemused, with one commenting on X (formerly Twitter): “What the fuck even is the vultures era anymore.”

Another said: “Vultures 3 is gonna be the biggest troll ever,” while somebody else went so far as to declare: “Kanye is losing his creativity in real time lmao.”

Even streaming star Adin Ross was left raising his eyebrows at the song while watching the concert on his Kick channel.

Elsewhere during the show, Kanye West debuted another brand new song called “Preacher Man,” which received a more positive response from fans online.

He revealed that the track is from his “next project,” although it’s unclear if he was referring to Vultures 3 or an upcoming solo album.

Kanye also found time to again insult his former business partners Adidas, flipping his middle finger as the capacity crowd chanted “fuck Adidas.”

West also performed the still-unreleased “Everybody” which prominently samples the Backstreet Boys, accompanied by all four of his children who were seen holding hands as they walked on

For the rapper and fashion mogul, the concert represented a return to his past as he lived in China for a year as a child while his mother Donda West worked as a school teacher in the country.

He acknowledged as much on his Instagram, posting an old photo of himself in China along with the caption: “BACK.”

The landmark show saw Yeezy perform over 90 songs from across his decorated catalog.

As well as songs from both Vultures projects, Ye went deep into his vault, performing classics such as “All Falls Down,” “Flashing Lights and “Black Skinhead.”

He also pulled out some lesser-played tracks such as his remix of Lil Wayne‘s “Lollipop,” Estelle collaboration “American Boy” and his take on Rihanna‘s “Diamonds.”

Kanye and Ty Dolla $ign put on a similar show in nearby South Korea in late August, where the G.O.O.D. Music founder made headlines again by shouting out frenemy Drake.
