Cole Palmer sent England fans into a frenzy when he lashed home a stunning goal to equalise against Spain in the Euro 2024 final.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Just three minutes after coming off the bench, Palmer blasted low into the bottom corner as he met a pass from Jude Bellingham, cancelling out Nico Williams earlier opener to tie the final at 1-1.

    WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING

“Cole Palmer. Cole F*CKING Palmer. England’s best talent,” wrote one supporter. “None of Bellingham, none of Foden. Cole PALMER. THE BEST PLAYER TO GRACE THE COUNTRY. STARBOY.”

“Cole Palmer enters the pitch, Cole Palmer scores after two minutes. Cold,” wrote Fabrizio Romano. “And Jude Bellingham’s assist.”

“Cole Palmer is the best player in the world. This is Ballon d’or worthy,” said Dubois, while a Chelsea fan sang the stars praises, saying: “Cole Palmer has come on 3 times this tournament and England has scored immediately after each and every time. It’s not a coincidence, he’s England’s best player.”

“I love how we always prove ourselves right when we say Southgate needs to bring Cole Palmer on. Instant impact TWICE now coming off the bench,” said Annie.

“Cole Palmer is undoubtedly the best English PL player of 2024 and it’s not even close,” said another fan.

    • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Palmer is the first player in 24 years to to come off the bench in a European Championship final and score an equaliser, according to Opta. The last player to do so was Sylvain Wiltord for France. Unlike in that final, however, it was Spain who went on to take a 2-1 lead late in the game, much to Palmer and England’s disappointment.

      WHAT NEXT?

Despite Palmer’s effort, England suffered a second consecutive European Championship final defeat. The Three Lions will hope to regroup and put together another strong campaign when the 2026 World Cup rolls around.
