Her ‘Only Murders in the Buildings’ costars won their first SAG Awards during the event
Selena Gomez made sure that her Only Murders in the Building costars Steve Martin and Martin Short received their trophies after they missed the 2025 SAG Awards!
During the ceremony, which was held on Feb. 23, the Hulu show won the award for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series. Short, 74, also won a personal award for outstanding male actor in a comedy series — his first ever.
However Short was unable to attend the show because he was sick with COVID, and presenters Joey King and Jack Quaid accepted the award on his behalf.
On Wednesday, March 12, Gomez, 32, presented her costars with their first-time SAG awards on camera, and they reacted to their wins.
In a video shared by the Only Murders in the Building Instagram account, Gomez surprised the actors with their trophies with a little help from their costar Michael Cyril Creighton and the show’s co-creator and executive producer John Hoffman.
“And the SAG Award goes to Steve Martin and Martin Short,” she proclaimed as she approached the men.
Short pretended to fall to the ground due to the weight of his awards and then delivered a faux acceptance speech.
“I would like to thank the Academy and everyone in the crew… Whose names [I] just don’t know,” he teased.
Meanwhile, Martin confirmed that it was his first SAG Award win.
During the ceremony, Gomez accepted the show’s award without her costars and acknowledged their absence in an acceptance speech.

“We never win. This is so weird!” she said, jokingly adding, “Marty and Steve aren’t here because, you know, they don’t really care.”
“But I just, I don’t know what to say,” she continued. “Thank you to Marty and Steve for — well they raised me. But I genuinely am just so grateful to everybody. The writers, everyone deserves this. And I take it home for all of us, and I’m bringing this back to New York for season 5. Thank you so much. I’m so grateful.
Short reacted to his win at the ceremony in a statement shared with PEOPLE: “The honor of being in Only Murders in the Building is the most spectacular compliment anyone could be given. The honor of being awarded by your peers is even greater. Thank you so so much.”
