Patrick Mahomes Switches Up His Signature Look with Short New Hairstyle After Chiefs’ 2025 Super Bowl Loss

Patrick Mahomes is ready for a fresh start — at least where his hair is concerned!

With spring on the horizon and the NFL season in the rearview mirror, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, 29, decided to switch up his hairstyle, chopping off a sizable amount of his signature mohawk. He publicly debuted the new look while celebrating daughter Sterling Skye’s fourth birthday.

In a joint Instagram post he shared with wife Brittany Mahomes on Saturday, Feb. 22, the star quarterback rocked a crew cut that appeared to be inches shorter than his previous ‘do.

The dad of three showed off his cropped post-season look while while playing with and planting a kiss on Sterling in the post, a supercut of footage from the little one’s birthday party. (The longtime couple also share 2-year-old son Bronze and month-old daughter Golden Raye.)

Brittany, 29, also shared a snap of Patrick holding son Bronze at Sterling’s party in a Feb. 22 Instagram Stories post, a shot that gave a better side view of the NFL star’s post-season trim. His facial hair, meanwhile, did not appear any shorter.

Patrick’s hair transformation seems to indicate a welcome change following the Chiefs’ tough loss to the Philadelphia Eagles at the 2025 Super Bowl earlier this month. The Feb. 9 NFL championship marked the last time the star was seen with his signature, longer hairstyle.

But the cut appeared to be a bit more controversial among fans of the NFL star and his wife, who did not hesitate to share their thoughts on the new look in the comments of their Instagram post.

“Whaaat Patrick cut his hair 😢,” one person commented, while another echoed this sentiment, writing, “Patrick!! Where’s your hair!!! I miss it already!!!”

“I’m still an emotional wreck over Patrick’s new haircut 😢,” a different user added.

Others, meanwhile, praised the NFL star’s new look, including one Instagram user who declared that the trimmed style “makes him look so young!”

Regardless of how the public feels about his hair, however, Patrick has been itching to change it up for quite some time now — but just never took the plunge.

The athlete previously mentioned the idea of changing up his appearance in his 2023 Netflix docuseries Quarterback, USA Today reported in July 2023.

In the third episode of the series, he declares that he wants to do something “different,” in part because he doesn’t want to be that dad with a mohawk.

“Imagine me 40 years old with this haircut,” the NFL star says in the show. “I mean, come on.”

But before now, Patrick hasn’t strayed too far from his mohawk when getting his hair freshened up by both his barber DeJuan Bonds, who works on Patrick’s game-day curls, and wife Brittany, who revealed during the offseason last summer that she likes to touch up her husband’s hair in her “free time.”
