Joni Mitchell Spotted During Rare Outing in Los Angeles 1 Year After Grammys Performance
On Wednesday, Jan. 22, the legendary folk singer also confirmed she’ll be performing at the FireAid benefit concert in Los Angeles
Joni Mitchell is on California time.
The “Big Yellow Taxi” singer was photographed during a stroll with a companion in Beverly Hills, Calif. on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Mitchell, 81, wore a black jacket and matching cap with navy pants covered in floral prints. She rocked a pair of sunglasses and a hat with her signature long hair tied into braids.
This outing comes almost a decade after Mitchell suffered an aneurysm in March 2015 that left her unable to walk or talk but has since recovered.
One of Mitchell’s most recent outings was her performance at the 2024 Grammy Awards, marking her first time performing at the awards show. Throughout her career, she was nominated 18 times by the Recording Academy and won 10 Gramophones.
Brandi Carlile introduced the legendary musician, whose real name is Roberta Joan Anderson, calling her “one of the most influential and emotionally generous creators in human history.”

“She redefined the very purpose of a song to reflect the contents of a person’s soul and before she took this leap, the popular song was observational,” the “Party of One” musician, 43, continued. “It was brilliant and influential, of course, but the exhilarating risk that we all now take by turning ourselves inside out for all the world to see started as far as I can tell with Joni Mitchell doing it first.”
Mitchell treated audiences to her 1966 song “Both Sides Now.”
In October, Mitchell performed “I’m Still Standing” with surprise guest Elton John at the Hollywood Bowl as a part of her concert billed as “Joni Mitchell and the Joni Jam.”
Carlile, Annie Lennox and Marcus Mumford also joined her onstage for the show which was interspersed with songs and anecdotes about Mitchell’s legendary career.
On Wednesday, Jan. 22, Mitchell confirmed on Instagram that she’ll be performing alongside artists including Billie Eilish and Finneas, Earth, Wind & Fire, Gracie Abrams, Green Day, Gwen Stefani, Jelly Roll, Joni Mitchell, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Lil Baby, Pink, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rod Stewart, Sting, Stephen Stills, Stevie Nicks and Tate McRae at the FireAid benefit concert, which will take place on Jan. 30 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.
“Joni will be joining an incredible lineup of artists for the FireAid Benefit Concert, happening January 30th, 2025, at the Kia Forum in LA. Get your tickets at Ticketmaster.com,” she wrote in a statement on the social media platform.
She continued: “FireAid Will be Broadcast by Select AMC Theatres, Apple Music and the Apple TV App, Max, iHeartRadio, KTLA+, Netflix/Tudom, Paramount+, Prime Video and the Amazon Music Channel on Twitch, SiriusXM, SoundCloud, Veeps, and YouTube.”
