Céline Dion Pays Tribute to Late Husband René Angélil on What Would Be His 83rd Birthday: ‘You Are a Part of Us Every Day’
The pair were married for 22 years until Angélil died in 2016
Céline Dion is remembering sweet memories shared with René Angélil.
In a heartfelt Instagram post shared on Jan. 16, the “My Heart Will Go on” singer, 56, marked what would’ve been her late husband’s 83rd birthday.
Dion and Angélil, her former manager, were married for 22 years, up until he died in 2016 from throat cancer.
“Today is your birthday, but the date doesn’t matter because there isn’t a day that we aren’t celebrating life with you,” Dion wrote alongside a black and white photograph of Angélil. “You are a part of us every day in the memories we cherish.”
“While going through all the years of pictures and videos that consistently keep you alive, we hear your voice, we see your gestures and we adore your spirit,” she continued. “We celebrate you always. Happy Birthday René, Notre Amour.”
Dion signed off the post, writing, “Céline, RC, Nelson and Eddy xx,” referring to herself and the three children she shares with Angélil: son René-Charles, who was born in 2001, and twins Nelson and Eddy, who followed in 2010.
Two days prior, Dion shared another Instagram post dedicated to her late husband — instead marking his death anniversary.
In the snapshot, the star and her children could be seen coordinated in neutral-colored clothing as they sat in an outdoor space with festive decor.
“René, we can’t believe you’ve been gone nine years already,” Dion wrote. “Not a day goes by that we don’t feel your presence, RC, Eddy, Nelson and I.”
“You were my greatest champion, my partner, and the one who always saw the best in me. I honor you and you are forever missed mon amour…We love you. – Celine xx…” she concluded.
Dion and Angélil would have celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on Dec. 17.
The “It’s All Coming Back To Me Now” vocalist was just 12 years old when the pair began working together professionally. The connection between them turned romantic when Dion was 19, though they kept their relationship mostly private.
Dion and Angélil got engaged in 1993 and tied the knot the following year. During their marriage, Dion took a break from music to care for Angélil as he was diagnosed with cancer three separate times.

In the years since Angélil’s death, Dion has dealt with her own health issues. She revealed in December 2022 that she was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare neurological condition that can cause debilitating muscle spasms.
Dion returned to the stage for the first time after the diagnosis at the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony in July. In an Instagram post at the end of the year, Dion gushed about looking forward to the “endless possibilities” expected for 2025.
