Robin Wright Says She and Tom Hanks Didn’t Hang Out on Forrest Gump Set Because He Was Always ‘Out Running’

Robin Wright’s recent experience working with Tom Hanks was very different from the last time they were on set together!

While promoting their new movie Here on Today on Monday, Oct. 28, Wright 58, shared that she didn’t get to spend much time hanging out with her costar Hanks, 68, the last time they worked together 30 years ago on Forrest Gump, as he was always “out running.”

“We were racing around shooting that movie and every lunch period Tom was out running,” Wright recalled of her time on set of the 1994 film. “Just running wherever they could grab him running. So we didn’t really get to hang out.”

The actress however added that they had “the best time” when their scheduled synced up on set.

Wright and Hanks starred opposite each other in Forrest Gump as childhood friends who later become husband and wife. In the film, Hanks’ title character is known for running fast and ends up running across the country over three years.

Wright shared during her interview on Today that working together 30 years later on Here, the pair “got to hang out” more on set and “get to know each other as adults.”

While shooting Here, the actors were also reunited with the movie’s director, Robert Zemeckis, who also directed Forrest Gump.

“It was literally like getting the band back together,” Wright said.

Here follows the story of “multiple families and a special place they inhabit. The story travels through generations, capturing the most relatable of human experiences,” per a synopsis.

The film uses AI technology to make Wright and Hanks appear younger and older as the plot moves forward.

Speaking of her experience making the film, Wright said, “I would do anything with Bob and Tom and so when he called and said, ‘I don’t know if it’s gonna work, it’s never been done before.’ And we all just said, ‘Let’s get on board.’ ”

At the movie’s world premiereat AFI Fest in Los Angeles on Oct. 25, Hanks shared that he and Wright “picked up right where we left off” on set.

“I’m going to say we love each other because we’re so easy with each other,” Hanks said. “It was a luxury to be able to come in and get the same conversations we’ve been having for the last 30 years after a moment of, ‘Hey, this kooky look, do you believe this? Can you believe this? Look at this, look at this.’ “
